FAQ
How long before I see results?
There is no universal timeline that every individual can use to see results. Multiple factors may contribute to your individual progress and success, including: training frequency, diet, sleep, and stress. With consistency, it generally takes 6-8 weeks to see and feel physical changes in your body composition. Jo Strong offers sustainable, permanent results and improvement in health through building new habits. Do not expect crash diets or crazy workout routines; they simply DO NOT WORK in the long run. Whatever routine you choose needs to be the same time and mental commitment as the routine you do 6 months from now and next year. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Are there refunds? What if I move?
There are no refunds because all sessions can be completed with the right commitment. Jo Strong offers virtual training if the client is out of town and sessions do not expire until six months after purchase.
What if I get sick or need to reschedule?
Let us know in advance the best you can. Our trainers need to plan their schedule and it’s unfair to expect someone to wake up just for you only to find out they aren’t actually going to work OR getting paid. Maybe they canceled a fun date because they’re loyal to their client’s schedule, they deserve the respect/compensation for their time. Accordingly, 24 hour notice is required to change a session day/time.
Will I see results if I only meet once a week?
That’s up to you! Did you get better at cooking by only doing it once a week? It’s possible but it will likely be slow and you may be re-learning things over and over again (which can be expensive over time). Meeting once a week CAN be a successful approach IF you put in the serious work it takes on the other days of the week. It’s perfectly acceptable to use our trainers as an accountability coach to check in with you once a week, but there is an additional fee for providing you with workouts to do on your own.
I heard the owner is a CrossFitter. Will I have to do CrossFit in my private sessions?
Absolutely not (unless YOU want to do CrossFit)! Our trainers customize and cater all sessions specifically to each individual client. Even the owner rarely suggests clients to participate in CrossFit, it’s not the right sport for everyone.
How do you approach working with clients that have chronic pain (including back and neck pain)?
Get diagnosed first, we are not doctors but we’re great at treating chronic pain. It’s also very important for your doctor to first approve you for exercise before meeting for a consultation. Our trainers will be much more successful in making your body stronger in the way you need with a previous diagnosis and clearance. After clearance, Jo Strong trainers localize the issue and make the weaker muscles stronger to decrease aggravation and strain on the overused tissues.
Can my personal trainer help me with stress, sleep, sedentary lifestyle management?
Your trainer may have a tip or trick that has helped them and may be very useful for you too. However, what your trainer may not have experience in is counseling practices to help you dive into why you are so stressed and not able to sleep. Sounds like therapy right? Our Registered Dietitians take a holistic approach for health that focuses more on what’s holding you back from eating the right foods and making time for exercise rather than “what to eat”.
Why can’t my personal trainer manage my nutrition plan?
For nutrition counseling, it is important to see a registered dietitian. Personal trainers don’t usually have the proper education or credentials to manage someone else’s nutrition. Dietitians not only provide you with research and evidence-based nutrition recommendations to help meet your individualized goals, but they also advise in a way that avoids restrictive and unhealthy eating patterns. Did you know that long-term calorie counting and avoiding your favorite foods are signs of disordered eating patterns?
How will the trainer personalize my workout plan?
The personal trainer puts every client through movement assessment, through which they identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. Combined with their goals, the program is then designed to address not only their goals but also to address their newfound weaknesses.
Is working out without a diet plan enough to reach all of my goals?
This could vary depending on your goal. If your goal is to lose weight, when you start a workout program, this usually increases your activity level and may help you lose weight. Since you are now moving more and having a higher expenditure, you are most probably burning more calories, leading to weight loss.
On the other hand, if your goal is to gain weight or build muscle, you may need some support from a dietitian to help you make sure you are getting the nutrients you need to reach your goal.
In both cases, if you do not have a healthy relationship with food, working out alone may not be enough to achieve your targets.
I’ve noticed that I have some habits in my life I want to improve, how can my trainer or nutritionist help?
Both your trainer and nutritionist will help curate a plan that is tailored for your goals. Your trainer can help by creating personalized workout plans and providing accountability and your nutritionist can offer tailored dietary advice and support behavioral changes. If you have specific habits that you would like to change, they can help you create short-term and long-term goals to improve these habits.
I don’t have a place to workout, how can I hire a Jo Strong Trainer?
If you don’t have a place to workout, there are two options to train with a Jo Strong Trainer:
Live virtual training sessions that can either be done at home with no equipment/minimal equipment, such as weights and resistance bands, or at a gym.
Self-paced workouts that could be done at home or in your gym. This would include tutorial videos for you to follow at your own pace.
I have a tight schedule, how do I ensure a trainer will match it before purchasing?
Before making a purchase, all incoming clients will receive a consultation session where they will be able to meet their trainer and come up with a suitable schedule before purchasing.
